ABOUT

Juliette Bongers was born and raised in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

She studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, graduating in 1994 with

an honours degree in Photography.

She then worked as a professional photographer in Amsterdam for national and international advertising agencies and magazines,

with many of her projects receiving nominations and awards in prominent

photography competitions.

Juliette:“Commissioned projects are both challenging and rewarding, especially when I am given creative freedom. Alongside this, I have always pursued personal work — a space where I can shape my own visual universe.”

In recent years, her personal work has taken a more focused direction, shaped by

black & white imagery and layered, poetic portraiture. She is drawn to subtle gestures, fragmented presence, and the quiet suggestion of a story, exploring form,

movement, and the delicate tension within a single image or across multiple images

that resonate with one another.

Her photographic work seeks to create timeless images, exploring depth and layered textures. Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, each image remains open, inviting interpretation and personal meaning. "I aim to spark reflection and encourage a quiet conversation between image and viewer."

Recurring themes include hidden stories, and subtle tension. Juliette explores the space where careful composition meets fleeting moments, where soft chaos and

quiet details coexist. These elements create layers that gradually unfold, allowing

images to function as both visual objects and reflective spaces.

"By avoiding explicit explanations, I strive to create photographs that remain resonant over time, evolving alongside the viewer’s perspective."
